LOSE MY BREATH EP

Across the board, Gasp!’s new EP, Lose My Breath, is as raw and heartbreaking as it is cataclysmic. With bouncing synth pads that will infect your brain integrated with crushing kick and bass that will surely melt it, the result is an immersive journey that’s as melodic as it is melancholic.

Opening with I Should Let You Go, we explore the world of letting go in the hope of eventual closure. Be it romantic, familial, or any other personal loss, it can be difficult to completely cut ties with what once was. Characterized by both raindrop-like synth patterns and persistent bass movement, the opening track is only a taste of the emotional release that is to come.

The end of something special can materialize as a deep sadness, but it may also return to you in the form of hellish hatred. Gasp!’s second and title track, Lose My Breath, is the epitome of earnest anger. To have loved, lost, and found yourself burned may fuel a fire that can be difficult to extinguish. These deep-rooted feelings pair nicely with the low, grinding bass, both jagged and crunchy, that gives this track a certain spice, setting it apart from its sentimental predecessor.

As Gasp!’s EP comes to a close, our feelings of anger may have subsided, but we find ourselves turning to a place of bitterness. It may hurt to lose someone close to you, especially when they’re the ones who decided to leave, but the third and final track, When I’m Gone, drives home a sense of reassurance in their inevitable regret. Exploding with color and full of life, this track may be bitter, but it has certainly moved beyond a place of brooding loneliness.
